Rats in the house or garden – we find the source first

Rat control Eindhoven:
Fast & Affordable (Mon - Sun)

A rat darting along the fence at dusk, a hole under the patio slabs or gnawing inside the cavity wall: rat control in Eindhoven takes more than putting down some bait. We trace where the rat is coming from, whether that is a broken sewer pipe, a compost heap or a chicken run, and close off that route. €90 inspection incl. call-out fee & VAT.

Rat control in Eindhoven: recognising the signs

Rats are wary and mostly show themselves at dusk and during the night. Often you notice the traces first:

  • droppings clearly larger than a mouse's, often in small groups
  • tunnels and burrows in the ground along walls, under paving or beneath the shed
  • dark grease smears along walls and pipes where they run
  • gnaw marks on wood, plastic drainpipes or wheelie bins
  • bird food or chicken feed that disappears overnight

If you only find small droppings and hear light pattering, a mouse is more likely. You can read how we handle those under mouse control.

Where do rats come from?

In the Netherlands it is nearly always the brown rat. It lives in sewers, along water and in gardens with enough to eat. It usually gets indoors through a broken or loose sewer pipe under the floor, a drain that was not properly capped after a renovation, or an opening into the crawl space. Outside, food and shelter draw it in: a compost heap with kitchen scraps, chicken feed, birdseed on the ground and clutter behind the shed.

Seeing rats in a park, on the street or around communal bins in public space? Report it to the gemeente Eindhoven. On your own property and in your home, we can help.

Why it pays not to wait

A rat in the crawl space or cavity wall is more than an irritating noise. Rats gnaw on pipes, cables and insulation, which can cause damage and occasionally a short circuit. They can spread diseases such as Weil's disease through their urine and droppings. And where one rat finds a good spot, others soon follow.

The sooner the route is known, the smaller the job usually stays. So do not wait until the tunnels in the garden spread or the gnawing returns every night. Dealing with rats is easiest while the first traces are still fresh.

Our rat control: source, proofing and targeted treatment

We start with detective work. Where do the tracks lead, where are the burrows, and is there a link with the sewer? To find out, we check the crawl space, drain covers and the base of the walls. If the rat comes from the sewer, we advise a non-return rat valve (rattenklep) and, if a pipe looks damaged, a camera survey by a drainage specialist.

Openings in the walls and crawl space are closed with gnaw-proof material. Then follows targeted treatment with traps or locked bait stations along the run. Professional rodenticides may only be used by certified pest controllers. It is how all our pest control in Eindhoven works: cause first, products second.

Keeping rats away from your house and garden

A garden without food or hiding places holds little interest for a rat. Use a closed compost bin rather than an open heap, and keep meat, bread and cooked food off it. Feed birds from a hanging feeder and sweep up spilt seed. Lock chicken feed away for the night.

Keep the space under decking and behind the shed tidy, and check that drain covers and vent grilles are intact. Never touch droppings or a dead rat with bare hands, and do not throw poison into the burrows: it puts pets, hedgehogs and birds at risk.

Our approach

From your call to a solution

1

Report what you've seen

Tell us where you saw the rat, whether there are burrows or droppings, and whether a chicken run, pond or compost heap is nearby.

2

Tracing source and route

We follow the tracks in the house and garden, check drains and sewer connections, and work out whether the rat comes from outside or from the sewer.

3

Proofing and treatment

We seal openings with gnaw-proof material and, where needed, place locked bait stations or traps along the rat's regular route.

4

Follow-up and drain advice

We check whether the stations are still being visited and, if necessary, advise on a rat valve or having the drain inspected with a camera.

Prices

Prices for rat control in Eindhoven

The first visit is a €90 inspection, including the call-out fee and VAT. During it we look not just for the rat, but above all for the route it takes: through the garden, the crawl space or the sewer. That determines which approach makes the most sense.

What the treatment costs after that varies from case to case. A rat under the garden shed needs fewer visits than a problem coming from a broken sewer pipe. After the inspection you receive a clear price, and we only start once you agree to it. Any repair to the drain itself is carried out by a drainage specialist.

Eindhoven

Rats along the Dommel and in Eindhoven gardens

The Dommel runs right through Eindhoven, and where water, banks and greenery meet, the brown rat feels at home. Gardens that back onto the river or a green strip, and allotments with compost heaps, are more likely to get visitors. In Stratum, Gestel and Tongelre, rats shelter under wooden decking, behind sheds and around chicken runs where feed is left lying.

In the city centre and around the bars of Stratumseind, the issue is more often bin bags, waste containers and old pipes beneath buildings. In pre-war districts such as Philipsdorp and Villapark, many drains have been in use for decades; a rat in the crawl space there is a good reason to have the sewer connection checked. We also help with rats around sheds and stables in Best, Geldrop and Valkenswaard.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about rat control

How much does rat control cost?

You pay €90 for the inspection, with the call-out fee and VAT included. After that we tell you what closing off the route and the treatment will cost. That price depends on the source and the number of visits, and we only begin once you agree.

Is rat poison dangerous for children, dogs or cats?

We only use poison in locked stations, fixed in place where children and pets cannot reach them. In and around the house we use traps wherever possible. We tell you exactly where everything is and what is best left untouched.

What can I do in the meantime?

Remove food sources: birdseed off the ground, chicken feed shut away at night and no leftovers on the compost heap. Leave burrows and tracks as they are so we can follow the route. Keep the wheelie bin lid firmly closed and keep children and pets away from the burrows.

What exactly does a rat valve do?

A rat valve, known in Dutch as a rattenklep or rioolklep, is fitted inside the sewer pipe. Waste water flows out through it, but a rat cannot get back up. It only works if the pipe is otherwise intact, so if in doubt, have a camera look inside the pipe first.
