Wasp nest removal in Eindhoven: finding the nest
You often cannot see the nest itself. What gives it away is a flight path: wasps disappearing into the same crack or hole again and again. Around Eindhoven homes and gardens, these are the usual places:
- the cavity wall, behind an open weep vent or air brick
- under roof tiles, near the ridge or behind the gutter
- in a shed, summer house or carport, against the beams
- in roller shutter boxes, bird boxes and dense hedges
- in the ground, often in an abandoned mouse hole in the lawn
The further summer goes on, the bigger the nest and the more fiercely the wasps defend it.
Why tackling a wasp nest yourself often goes wrong
A can of spray from the DIY store, a bucket of water or sealant over the hole: it seems simple, but it usually backfires. Standing right by the entrance can mean being stung by several wasps at once. Block the hole and the colony will chew a new way out, which sometimes ends up indoors, next to a ceiling light or behind the skirting board.
If you are allergic, or the nest is by a bedroom window, the front door or the sandpit, do not take the risk. Our pest control in Eindhoven team wears protective clothing and uses products reserved for certified pest controllers.
How our wasp treatment works
We prefer to come towards evening, when nearly all the wasps are inside. After a short inspection we apply a professional product to the entrance or directly into the nest. The wasps carry it inside and activity drops off quickly. If the nest hangs freely in a shed or under a canopy, we take it down after treatment.
Wasp nest removal from a cavity wall does not mean opening up the brickwork. The nest dies off and is never reused, because a young queen always starts from scratch the following year.
Bee nest removal in Eindhoven
Not everything that buzzes is a wasp. We do not exterminate honey bees: they are valuable pollinators. If a swarm hangs from a branch or a wall in spring, leave it alone. A swarm usually only rests for a while before moving on, and a beekeeper (imker) can collect the bees and settle them in a hive.
Bumblebees nest in bird boxes, under floor insulation or in an old mouse hole. They rarely sting and the colony dies out after one season, so with bumblebees we usually recommend leaving the bee nest where it is. Mason bees in old mortar joints are harmless too. If honey bees have moved into a cavity wall, we discuss the options with you and refer you to a beekeeper.
Hornet nest removal in Eindhoven
Two kinds of hornet occur around Eindhoven. The European hornet is large, reddish-brown and yellow, and builds its nest in hollow trees, sheds or lofts. It is calmer than its size suggests, but take care near the nest. In the evening it is drawn to lit windows.
The Asian hornet is almost black, with an orange-yellow band on the abdomen and yellow tips to its legs. In spring the queen first builds a small nest, often low down under a canopy. The large nest later hangs high in a tree and only becomes visible once the leaves drop. Never try to remove a hornet nest yourself; we deal with it using the right equipment. Preventing a new nest next year
Wasps choose a new site every spring, often one much like the last. Use the winter, when nothing is flying, to seal gaps under the tiles and holes in the shed wall. Open weep vents and other cavity wall vents get an insect grille rather than sealant, so the wall can still breathe.
From May onwards, check the shed and roller shutter box now and then: a nest the size of a table-tennis ball is quick to treat. Found gnaw marks or small droppings in that shed too? Read how we handle mouse control without loose poison pellets.
